Twist Cup

One of my earliest and still one of my absolute favorite designs, this Twist Cup is a fantastic decorative item and an extremely useful desktop accessory. They stack together incredibly well with a fun little spin. The thick walls and base give it a wonderful heft that is highly satisfying to hold and the twist grooves feel great. I designed this as a parametric surface using Wolfram Mathematica and it's exciting to share with my students knowing that it was made with equations that we study in class. I've had a blast photographing the curves within the design. I printed all of these two at a time using duplication mode on my MakerGear M3-ID. See My Video: youtu.be/irt8Ng4vrVE I experimented with 0.3 mm vs. 0.15 mm layer height using a copper color filament. The images with the two copper prints show the difference side by side. Left is 0.3 and Right is 0.15. The 0.15 layer height is incredibly shiny and smooth to touch, but the 0.3 mm prints came out very nice too and, of course, print twice as fast.
