Twilight Imperium War Sun Dice Tower
thingiverse
I felt inspired to create a giant war sun dicetower. It is just barely small enough to fit on the bed of an ender 3 - you can scale it down if you want to print it on something smaller. I split the war sun in half to print each part flat on the bed then superglue and clamp together (but also included the full nonsplit version). Included two versions of the base, one with a thin railing connecting the fighters for extra stability and one without. Base has small indents for the 4 legs to fit into, then glue in place. I printed the first few layers of the base in black, then did a manual filament switch to blue for the hexes, then another switch the grey for the fighters. That way the little hexes are a nice spacey-blue color with a hint of black border around them I made it so that 100% size fits jumbo dice from dice forge (24mm) and large D20s (27mm). So for normal sized (16mm) dice, you should be fine to scale it down a decent amount). Enjoy printing and post a make if you do! Update 1: 1/16/22 I found that there wasn't quite enough space under the tower to grab out dice, so modified the bottom half slightly - In one version I reduced how far down the spikes went so there was more hand clearance, and in the other I simply increased the height of the legs. Additionally, I made the rectangle cutouts in the base have a little extra clearance for the legs, and increased the gap between each of the little textured hexes on the base. Personally, I'd recommend printing warsun_tophalf_sw.STL, warsun_bottom half_taller legs.STL, and base assembly_bigger gaps.STL Update 2: 1/17/22 I decided to make a version with three holes for dowel pins to go into for ease of alignment and clamping. You should be able to use 5mm/20mm pins or print the provided ones here. Look for the top and bottom half files marked "with pins". I didn't update all the versions of the bottom half piece with pins, mainly because I think the one with taller legs is the best version, plus my solidworks is going really slow making changes to these large stl files. I did leave the other versions in the upload though in case anyone wants to try them.
