TWENTY SOMETHING SULLIVAN Architectural Ornament 1881 â 1885 by Tom Burtonwood and Tim Samuelson http://twentysomethingsullivan.com Louis H. Sullivan is often celebrated as a pioneer of modern architecture, but it's unlikely he'd want to be remembered for that title alone. His true passion was harnessing human ingenuity, creativity, and reason to breathe life into buildings and their components. Just like nature, each part should complement the whole, reflecting the unique perspective and emotional depth of the individual creator. This approach would yield a living, breathing architecture that's constantly evolving â not a stagnant, artificial ideal. Often overlooked are Sullivan's early works, which showcase these principles in vivid detail. His twenties-era buildings burst forth from the ground, radiating organic energy and contrasting with the geometric precision at their core. Unfortunately, many of these structures have vanished, leaving behind only remnants of their ornate details. To truly thrive, living things require three dimensions to exist.
