Tutankhamun, also spelled Tutenkh-, -amen, and -amon, was an Egyptian pharaoh during the New Kingdom period (18th dynasty) who ruled from c. 1332-1323 BC. Commonly referred to as King Tut, his original name was Tutankhaten, meaning "Living Image of Aten," and later changed to Tutankhamun, meaning "Living Image of Amun." Discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter, funded by Lord Carnarvon, the nearly intact tomb sparked global interest in ancient Egypt. DNA tests in 2010 confirmed that he was the son of Akhenaten and his father's sister-wife, whose remains are identified as The Younger Lady mummy. Belief in the curse of the pharaohs surrounds the deaths of individuals connected to the tomb discovery.
