Tutankhamun is a name that brings to mind visions of ancient Egypt's mighty pharaohs, yet it was a relatively short-lived reign that made this one of the most famous names in history. The son of Akhenaten and Nefertiti, Tutankhamun ascended to the throne at just nine years old after the death of his father, who had abandoned traditional Egyptian gods for a new monotheistic worship of Aten. Tutankhamun's early years were marked by a return to the old ways, as he replaced the pharaoh Akhenaten's radical reforms with a renewed emphasis on the traditional pantheon of gods. This included restoring the power of the priestly class and rebuilding temples that had been neglected or destroyed during his father's reign. Tutankhamun's reign was also marked by significant cultural achievements. His court attracted scholars, artists, and architects from all over the ancient world, who came to marvel at the pharaoh's grand building projects. The young king himself took a keen interest in architecture, commissioning numerous temples, tombs, and other monuments that would become iconic symbols of Egyptian culture. One of Tutankhamun's most lasting legacies is the discovery of his tomb by Howard Carter in 1922. The tomb's incredible treasures, including the golden mask that covered the pharaoh's face, have captivated the imagination of people around the world for generations.
