TUSH2-Style Filament Holders for LACK Enclosure
prusaprinters

I recently built the LACK enclosure for my Prusa Mk3S. I like it but I hate the fiddling required to put spools of filament onto the included filament holders.

So I decided to make a new remix of the spool holders I use for all my other printer brands, spongybob1958's TUSH2 design. It's super easy to change the width for various spool sizes and to put spools on and off. Basically, all I did was to change the dimensions of the rail so I can put 5 spool holders on the enclosure and added numbers to the sliding rails.

Included is also the stl for spool holder arms to help secure the spools.

If you like what I'm doing…

…consider buying me a coffee.

Print instructions

Resolution: 0.2
Infill: 20%
Supports: No

Notes:

I created the honeycomb pattern visible in the images by slicing the left and right sides without top and bottom layers and with honeycomb infill.

For each holder, print two copies each of Inside and Outside. The outside parts have a raised guide to keep the spool from coming off the sides. In the gcode files, inside and outside parts are already combined.

Print one copy of plain_rail for each holder, plus the respectively numbered rail.

Hardware required

Per spool holder you'll need 4 standard 608 bearings, eg., https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07R7PR72H, that is, for 5 spool holders you'll need 20 bearings.

4x #8 countersunk wood screws per holder, or 20 total

Optionally: 4x M3x12 bolts and 4x M3 nuts per holder, or 20 of each total.

Assembly

To build one spool holder, assemble one left and one right side part and two bearings into one base, then do it again for a second base.

Slide a numbered and a plain rail into the slots on the bottom of one of the bases, with the raised guides pointing outward.

Slide the second base onto the rails, again with the raised guides pointing outward. The bases should slide freely over the rails. If not, run a deburring tool or similar over the edges of the rails. Or try to scale the rails down slightly (eg 98%) in your slicer.

Parts and bearings are pressure fits but if you want to secure it even more, the TUSH2 design can accommodate an M3 nut and an M3x12 bolt to hold it together.

Use countersunk wood screws to attach the rails to the top of the LACK enclosure. The bases should slide freely over the rails.
