TUSH - US 1/2" PVC Framed Filament Spool Holder
thingiverse
I love and have used the TUSH Ultimate Spool Holder Thing since I started doing 3D printing. However, I found that, as published, it tends to fall over if you move it around. Plus, for my recent US 1/2" PVC 3D Printer Enclosure project (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4850204), I needed a way to mount filament spools for top feeding to my direct feed printer(s). That's why I created this remix for US 1/2" PVC pipe frames, which actually provides for three different ways to use it. 1. A free standing frame for the remixed TUSH spool holder brackets, that supports and stabilizes them, and is portable. You can use this portable frame's basic parts to build a frame for one spool, or for many spools. The remixed brackets include a clip that snaps over standard US 1/2" PVC pipe. See the "Assembled" stl for this frame. If you are going to mount several spools on a larger version of this frame, and are not going to use either of the enclosure top mounting options below, the "Elbow_90_Set" should also be printed and installed at each corner, with a short length of PVC pipe at each end, for stability of a larger frame. These parts require supports touching build platform and a brim. 2. Starting with the basic frame in #1, I added mounting brackets that sit on the top rails of my PVC 3D printer enclosure (link above). The basic free standing frame, with PVC pipe that spans the full width of the top of the enclosure, clips into these special brackets. Since the brackets are not clipped to the enclosure frame and just sit on top of the PVC pipe frame members, it can be easily moved forward or back on the enclosure, allowing lots of flexibility in location. See the "Assembled" stl for this frame. 3. A variation of the PVC enclosure top mounting bracket in #2, designed to be mounted on a wood roof of an enclosure, or in my case, screwed in on top of the 1"x1" square wood dowel frame side members of my large Longer LK5 Pro enclosure. See the "Assembled" stl for an example of this frame. For all of the "Assembled" stl examples, the lengths of the various PCV frame members shown is for demonstration only, and actual PVC pipe lengths are are totally up to you and your specific project's needs. Common features: - The spool holder feet that include the roller bearings clip onto the basic PVC frame members, but the clips are easy to remove and relocate on the 1/2" PVC pipe, allowing for different spool widths. - The lengths of the 1/2" PVC pipe you select can allow several spools to share and be stored on the same frame, with only the one spool actually feeding filament needing to be mounted the TUSH feet and roller bearings. NOTE: I am just starting the process of printing and testing all of these top feed mounting options. However, the core design elements, including all of the applicable 1/2" PVC connector sizes, have been well proven in several of my other PVC based projects. Only a few details are added for this one.
