3D scanner turntable

This minimalist turntable can be used for 3D photo scans. The object to be scanned is placed on the plate and can be photographed from all sides by simply turning the crank. Using the appropriate software, the images can be computed into a 3D object. You can find appropriate programs searching the term "photogrammetry".

The turntable was designed in such a way that it can be produced with as little material (PLA or PETG) as possible. Any 3D printer should have the additional parts needed. I used an axle (aluminium tube with 8 mm outer diameter and wall thickness 1 mm) and 2 roller ball bearings (outer diameter 22 mm, inner diameter 8 mm, width 7 mm) from a simple filament roller holder.

For the turntable you need a piece of aluminium tube that is between 3.8 and 4.2 mm long. For the crank, the aluminium tube should be between 4.5 and 5.0 cm long.

Press the two ball bearings into the recess provided in the plate.

The recommended resolution for printing is 0.2 mm per layer. The infill should be at least 35 %, for the small parts of the crank higher values can be useful, depending on the material used.

For the gear wheel, support material should be activated. The other parts do not necessarily need this.

For the assembly of the crank you need 1 screw M3x10 and one screw M3x25, as well as a flat nut M3.

The STL files were created in very high resolution.

Tips
For green screen shots it might be good to print the plate in green as well.
When using transparent materials, the infill pattern makes interesting effects (gyroscopic was used here).
The two holes for the crank should be drilled out with an 8 mm drill.
Category: Camera
