I originally designed this turntable to automate structured light scanning with "DAVID Laserscanner 4." However, since the table can be accessed via the serial port, it should be usable with numerous scan setups. At the core of the turntable are a ChipKit Uno32, an Adafruit motor shield, and a NEMA17 step motor. Complete build instructions and firmware are available here: https://sites.google.com/site/janbeck/3d-scanner-turntable-for-david4 Since then, the new version (DAVID5 has been purchased by HP and is now HP 3DScan) has removed serial port support, requiring a bit more work to get the table working. Fortunately, no firmware change is necessary: https://sites.google.com/site/janbeck/3d-scanner-turntable-for-david5 This turntable was printed using ZIRO CarbonFiber filament, which provides a nice matte finish that is highly functional for this application.
