Turntable accessory for Pivo
thingiverse
The Pivo, one of the recent Kickstarter photography smart tripod controllers, had a turntable as an add-on feature. A nice touch, but ultimately not worth the extra cost when you can 3D print a similar product for pennies on the dollar. Assuming you have access to a valid design, that is. So here's one option. The Kickstarter version of this smart tripod controller measures 7 inches in diameter, but I wanted something smaller and more compact. Hence, I designed two new models: one with an outer diameter of 3.5 inches, and the other with a diameter of 5.5 inches. To add extra stability to these designs, I plan to incorporate a 1/4-20 brass insert into each model. My initial prototype was printed using MakerBot tough PLA, and it has performed admirably without any issues or problems. The PLA material provides sufficient grip and prevents the screw from coming loose over time. However, for added security and peace of mind, I recommend using a genuine metal insert instead. The STL files that include "insert" in their name are specifically designed to accommodate these inserts nicely: you can find them on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LBRCRP6/. These inserts have a depth of 6mm and come in inches as standard.
