Turkish Restaurant

The iconic Turkish restaurant in Baghdad stands as one of the city's main landmarks, situated in the heart of the bustling Bab Al-Sharqi district. Its name is a nod to its former occupant, a popular Turkish eatery that once dominated the upper floors of this impressive 14-story structure, which also housed a thriving shopping center from 1980 to 2000. As the Youth and Sports Authority took over the building in 2001, it became their headquarters. However, following the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, the building was left abandoned and untouched for years. It wasn't until the Iraqi protests of 2019 that this once-thriving hub found new life as a symbol of resistance.
