Turkish Drop Spindle

Drop Spindles - Three sizes and OpenSCAD source. A Turkish-style drop spindle for spinning yarn from fleece yields the smoothest results when printing a pair of wings together, followed by a stick on its own. To achieve a batch of sticks with minimal lumps or bumps, simply sand down any imperfections. If a stick breaks during use, removing it and replacing it with a new one in an existing spinning project proves to be a feasible solution. For optimal winding of the cob, follow this pattern: under one arm, over two. The smallest spindle size is ideal for producing novelty or thread-thin yarns. In contrast, the largest spindle shown, which is 125% of standard size, excels at plying but comes with a heavier weight, making it less suitable than the 100% version. Thanks to my expert spinning daughter, Jenny Sutherland, who contributed her in-depth knowledge of spinning to refine this design and ensure its effectiveness.
