Established under license from Italy's Fiat Automobile, the company was founded in Turkey in 1968 and stands for the Turkish Automobile Factory Joint Stock Company. The foundation of the factory in Bursa was laid on 13th April 1969, occupying a total area of 61,848 square meters within its 735,170 square meters premises. Production began in series on 12th February 1971, with 8,500 workers currently employed at the facility situated within the Bursa-Yalova industrial area.
