8-Ball Airlines proudly introduces the TurboJet, revolutionizing quick service with unparalleled speed. The company's spokesperson confidently declares, "All jet engine, no jets provides the fastest possible service!" Unfortunately, shortly after its debut, 8-Ball Airlines faced financial difficulties due to disappointing ticket sales, ultimately leading to its collapse. However, this setback becomes a bonus for enthusiasts! Now, you can own a TurboJet of your own, thanks to its open-source design. Build Notes: The main tube is made from BT-80 material, measuring 147mm in length. Feel free to extend it for enhanced stability if desired. The inner tube is crafted from Reynolds Wrap Heavy Duty Aluminum foil, approximately 30mm in diameter. This versatile material allows you to use a 29mm motor or thicker tubes with minor adjustments. Align the parts before cutting the inner tube, aiming for a flush fit between the retainer and fin unit, as well as the nosecone and intake fins. The motor can accommodates 18mm motors (Estes A, B, or C) and might accept Aerotech single-use motors, though this remains untested. Ensure the necessary lip is present for secure attachment. To compensate for a slightly long motor tube, create and glue a spacer piece at the top. Drill a small hole for attaching a screw eye to secure the shock cord. When assembling, carefully align launch lugs between fin and intake pieces. Painting the inner area silver first (including BT-80 and intake) simplifies the process. Mask off ends before painting the remaining areas. This rocket is inherently unstable, requiring nose weighting, especially if built short. Mine features 2/3 full of BB's in a 1-inch tall by 1-inch wide nose cone. UPDATE: The motor tube was shortened by 3mm during the Pringles version remix on October 29, 2018, rendering the original spacer unnecessary. Flight Report: Launched on a C6-3 motor, this rocket flew smoothly and straight, landing unfortunately in a tree. Despite this minor setback, it performs as intended!
