Yohann's project involved designing a turbine jet engine from scratch, utilizing his software skills in the process. Through this journey, he not only applied his existing knowledge but also discovered new methods and functions within the software that expanded his CAD capabilities. He further enhanced his understanding of jet engines by using Autodesk CFD to simulate their different parts in a virtual wind tunnel. The simulation results are shared in three YouTube videos, while the entire CAD process is available for viewing. Yohann's design can be 3D printed at any scale, fitting a Makerbot generation 5 print bed. To assemble and finish the model, you will need a few additional items such as sand paper and bearings. The ultimate goal of this project was to share his passion for mechanical and aerospace engineering with others and teach them how a jet engine works through a functional, physical model that can be held in hands. After completing this project, one should have a comprehensive understanding of how a jet turbine engine functions and be able to name its different parts along with their individual roles.
