Tuna Can Electronics Project Container
grabcad
This is a model of a tuna can that I have used a smooth cutting can opener to remove any sharp edges when cutting open the lid. This can is formed from one piece of metal, meaning that there is no bottom lid. As such it makes for a very good water and dust container for small electronic projects or just to hold things.Since it is made of a tin-steel, it also makes for a very good Radio Frequency shielding container as well since there are no slots and the lid overlaps very tightly. Either a motor or sensitive EMI / RFI electronics can be put in to reduce EMI susceptibility. All that is necessary is to make sure that you buy and use a smooth cutting can opener to create one.The dimensions of this StarKist tuna can is 84.4mm dia OD, 83.4mm dia ID, 0.5mm wall thickness, 29.0mm useable interior height with the can lid on, and 34.0mm tall with the lid in place. When designing, there should be at least 0.5mm gap from these dimensions for clearance and tolerances.I will try to make an electronics RF project out of this container and post at a later date. Please see my other model of the tuna can PCB outline to get an idea of the PCB geometry.Previous legacy tuna can projects can be found here : http://qrpme.com/?p=product&id=EZBRemember to REDUCE , REUSE, RECYCLE and help save the planet, because you might not be able to play a musical instrument, but you can definitely tuna-can ! ;-b
