Here's a tubular drive mechanism that uses half-inch aluminum conduit as designed. It's still in development mode right now, but I've already begun working on a new version featuring dual rails. With the right combination of components - a stepper motor and magnetic linear encoder come to mind - this could be just the thing for a high-accuracy linear axis drive. Test out this fixed conduit design at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0G8B77UOJs The fixed drive version, also shown on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70dTRN7zSpU Here are the assembly instructions: Use 75% infill and three shells to print out all of your parts. Don't forget about the spacers - you'll need to print them out at 100% infill instead. This tubular drive makes use of standard skateboard bearings in order to function smoothly. Brushing acetone over both sides of the wheel first, followed by inserting a bearing into its place, will get things started properly. As it becomes clear that your wheels are setting and become hard - it's time for a surface brush with acetone, one that should improve bond between the ABS and wheels further.
