Tube Joiners

Tube Joiners

This is part of a project I've been working on to create a room divider / shelf unit for my lounge. The idea came from a company called SpaceStor, which produces a unit called Pallisades and mainly supplies the commercial market. They quoted me over £4000, which was far too expensive. The furniture consists of 2 wall units from Ikea that I'm modifying by adding 3D printed feet to them. The upper part is made up of steel tube joined together with printed tube joiners. The steel I used for this project was sourced from Metals4U in the UK and required 2 different sizes to match the depth and width of the 2 units. The steel size I chose is 15.9mm (od) x 1.2mm (wall thickness). I ordered a total of 12 pieces that are 326mm long and 34 pieces that are 370mm long. The order came out to £32, which included cutting and delivery, an incredible deal. The tube joiners were designed to be printed without supports, which is essential for me. However, I did notice that the upright post/spigot ends up being slightly narrower than the rest of the design. I might need to adjust one of the axes by a tiny multiplier if possible. I'll update this as I continue working on the project.
