This was done as a culminating project with our third graders after their unit on animal adaptations and habitats. They designed a new animal by combining features from different animals, creating something entirely unique. To explain how each feature helped the new animal survive, students had to think critically about its needs. This led them to decide what type of habitat would be perfect for their creation to thrive in. After designing their animals, they built a zoo where these incredible creatures could live and flourish. Last year's class used Makers Empire to bring their designs to life. However, this upcoming year I plan to have students draw their animal by hand and then convert the picture into an .stl file using Picsvg.com and tinkercad, giving them more control over the creative process.
