TSA Compliant Tool and Whistle
thingiverse
I was fed up with being unable to carry tools in my carry-on luggage because of frequent flying. This basic tool set allows me to turn a screw, hold a nut, and open a beer at least, or whistle really loudly if necessary. The whistle can hold two standard hex bits for use with the tool but will only work with one bit inserted. There is both a standard and metric version available. The metric version also has a square cutout for turning a standard drum lug if you're into that sort of thing. I printed this in PLA with 65% infill, which is the minimum needed to have a functional tool. I've opened dozens of beers with this tool but need to be careful since it's entirely plastic and can get cut by the cap or broken if rough. The tool and whistle are about as long as a standard key so they fit on a keychain without taking up too much space. The hex bits are caught inside the whistle by the keychain when attached. Print Settings Printer: QIDI Pro Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: No Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 65% minimum Notes: The orientation of the files isn't shown correctly so the tool needs to be flipped over and the whistle printed with the "reed" at the top. Accurate bridging is needed for the whistle to print cleanly but the overhangs are no more than 45%, so this should print easily on any printer. I first printed this on an original Printrbot Simple cobbled together with zip ties and fishing line, and both parts were fully functional. How I Designed This I used Solidworks to design the model.
