Trunk and Base for FabShop Christmas Tree

thingiverse

FabShop's Christmas tree was a standout favorite among the numerous Christmas trees available on Thingiverse, but I felt it lacked something - a sturdy trunk and base to bring it to perfection. So, I took matters into my own hands by printing a customized trunk using wood filament to achieve an authentic wooden appearance, complemented by a vibrant red PLA base that added a pop of color. For the star, I utilized a clear filament and even cleverly embedded a micro USB socket into the base, with plans to integrate an LED light inside it later on. Printer Settings Manufacturer: Ultimaker Printer: Ultimaker 2 Raft Support: No Supports: None Resolution: 0.18 mm Infill Percentage: 30% Notes: I successfully embedded the micro USB socket into the base using Simplify3D to print right up to its top surface. Then, I carefully inserted the socket with wires securely in place and made sure they were neatly tucked away below the surface. Finally, I ran another program to encapsulate the socket. The result was impressive, featuring only the slightest of visual marks around the base where the two prints merged. How This Design Was Created Solidworks played a crucial role in this design process. I began by importing the STL file into Solidworks and proceeded to create the trunk and base in 3D space. By doing so, I ensured that all components fit together seamlessly once assembled and presented an attractive overall appearance.
