Trunk and Base for FabShop Christmas Tree
pinshape
Summary FabShop's Christmas tree is my go-to choice for Thingiverse, but I felt like something was missing - a trunk and base to bring it to life. I printed the trunk using wood filament to achieve an authentic wooden finish, and paired it with a bright red PLA base that shines like a beacon. Print Settings Printer Brand: Ultimaker Printer: Ultimaker 2 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.18 Infill: 30% I embedded the micro USB socket into my base using Simplify3D, printing up to the top of the socket before inserting it with wires attached. I then ran a second program to encapsulate the USB socket, resulting in barely noticeable witness lines where the two prints meet. Design Process Designed using Solidworks I imported the STL file into Solidworks and designed the trunk and base within the context of the entire model, ensuring everything fit together seamlessly and looked perfect once assembled.
