Truncated Rhombicuboctahedron Bead

thingiverse

A hollowed-out bead takes shape as a truncated rhombicuboctahedron. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truncated_rhombicuboctahedron This convex polyhedron stands out for showcasing the primary crystallographic planes, 100, 110, and 111, along with the 211 planes situated between adjacent 111 planes. During an investigation into nodes for frame systems, this body emerged. In an octet-truss system, the 111 faces (displayed in blue) hold significance as they are perpendicular to truss rods. The 111 faces (highlighted in yellow) point towards tetrahedral voids within the truss, which exhibit threefold symmetry. Meanwhile, the 100 faces indicate octahedral voids in the truss, displaying fourfold symmetry. Notably, the odd 211 faces are crucial because they occupy the angular center between any two adjacent 111 faces.
