"True Detective" Devil Net
thingiverse
My debut 3D creation is straight out of my favorite TV series, "True Detective," where my fascination with air plants first took hold. The intricate details of the "devil nets" that keep turning up at crime scenes across the show were the inspiration behind this striking design, which not only serves as an eye-catching air plant holder but can also be proudly displayed on your desk to unsettle your colleagues. Crafted from Proto-pasta Magnetic Iron PLA, this design's rugged finish is thanks to a deliberate attempt at achieving the authentic patina of rusty metal. For added realism, I picked up an actual air plant and chain from my local nursery, which adds an authentic touch to the finished product. In a testament to the power of modern technology, I employed 123Dcatch to scan one of my own handmade Devil Nets - yes, my neighbors still aren't sure what to make of my hobby - and took it for a spin in MeshMixer to ensure that every detail was spot on. If you're looking to bring this unsettling design to life, just keep the following tips in mind: printed at 70% infill will give your creation all the strength it needs; a raft and supports come in handy too - although if you're willing to go big, they might not be necessary.
