Trophy Base
thingiverse
A custom trophy model was created by combining various elements from different sources, including the Amsterdammertje model by niekmarks, a Movie award design by The New Hobbyist, the Saxxy base by bogart27 and Valve Software, and a rescaled Nespresso Pilon from GrabCad. Nicklievendag's Oscar design was also used, with credit given for its use under Creative Commons share-alike license to keep it LGPL safe. The trophy model, "trophy2_fixed.obj," has a low polygon count of 27k, edge count unknown, and vertex count of 13.5k, making it suitable for use on Valve's Source Engine as a prop, bodygroup, or weapon. However, it may not work as a weapon in Team Fortress 2 without simplification, which the creator notes they cannot perform correctly in Mesh Lab. The original "trophy2.obj" model is too large to be used in this way, but both models can be subdivided and smoothed while preserving details through techniques such as Catmull-Clark subdivision, midpoint-edge smoothing, normals manipulation, and surface-preserving Laplacian smoothing. Another version of the trophy without the Oscar design is available under a no-derivatives license, with less polygons and potentially suitable for use in older games like Half-Life 1 or Quake. The creator invites feedback and requests advance notice if this alternative model is desired. Credit is given to the movie industry and Valve Software for providing high-quality models that were reworked by those credited. Some models may have internal geometry, making them non-printable, while others require rescaling to print on platforms like Shape Ways or Sculpteo. The trophy model can be obtained through a Dropbox link, which needs to be organized for easier access.
