Tronxy x5s - Y Gantry Upgrade (strong and stable)

thingiverse

I printed numerous Y-gantry upgrades from Thingiverse for my Tronxy x5s, all suffering from the same issue: when tightening the belts, bolts are pulled inward approximately 1mm. This seemingly minor problem has a significant impact, as the Tronxy x5s uses wheels that press against the 2020 profile to maintain gantry alignment. When bolts holding those wheels in place are pulled inward by about 1mm, it causes the wheels to be pushed outward from the 2020 profile. As a result, not all wheels remain firmly in contact with the 2020 profile at all times, resulting in compromised surface and horizontal print quality. The Z-axis experiences misalignment as it moves, causing hotend nozzle alignment issues between layers and movements, reminiscent of Z wobble but not consistently spaced. To address this issue, I created a top piece to fit above the 3-wheel gantry plate included in 3DFreezeMe's "upgraded parts for Gantry and Belt Idlers" (2580773), designed to keep wheel bolts aligned and square when belts are tightened. While this solution was partially effective, not all wheels were pressing as firmly against the 2020 profile as desired. I added support for an eccentric nut and improved the belt path, lengthening the front of the gantry for better contact with the X-axis 2020 profile. After researching suggested belt paths, I chose the CoreXY path shown in a post on the Reprap forum (https://reprap.org/forum/read.php?397,836067,836092#msg-836092). To accommodate this new path, I added a central bolt location for idlers, moving them off the wheel bolts. The result is that wheels can be tightened properly, with no lateral tension from the belts, leaving them pressed firmly against the 2020 profile and maintaining stability. Required parts (for both sides): * 2x M5 20x teeth idlers * 2x M5 smooth idlers * 4x M5 spacers (1656633) * 6x D-type wheels (the ones that come with the x5s are suitable) * 6x M5x80mm * 2x M5x50mm * 4x M5 eccentric nuts (Inner Hole: 5mm, Height: 6.35mm) * 10x M5 nuts * 18x M5 lock nuts * 30x M5 washers Note that the above list reflects my available parts; you can modify it as needed and adjust the number of lock-nuts or add more washers and spacers for optimal results. Refer to the included photo to understand how I installed everything, and go from there.
