Upgrading only the X axis and adding a 24V PSU is absolutely essential to take the X5s to a whole new level of performance. The Y axis, however, can be considered optional. In my opinion, based on my experience, the stock configuration wheels of the X axis need to be tightened too often to prevent precision loss - something I've encountered firsthand, although not everyone has been unlucky enough to experience it. For the Y axis, I firmly believe that the rails should be mounted on the side of 2020 profiles, rather than on top as seen in other reworks. This design choice also allows for a decision about whether or not to retain the metal stock plate - a heavier option that requires careful consideration of its weight. Additionally, you'll need to replace the Y and Z stock endstops as part of this upgrade process. So far, I've found this rework to be highly effective, but it's always essential to perform some trial runs before finalizing the design.
