After fine-tuning my TronXY X5s, I noticed that prints were no longer square, consistently offsetting by 1-3 mm over a distance of about 100 mm. As a result, holes designed to align with other objects simply wouldn't work properly. I drew inspiration from the "Tronxy X5s Mega Gantry Plates" design by graham01 in October 2017. However, their solution wouldn't be feasible for me due to potential interference with future mods I plan to implement. No matter what adjustments I made, such as squaring attachment rollers to the 2020 X-axis rails, belt tension, or frame alignment, the gantry plate would not remain square. This post serves as my solution, which effectively resolves the issue. Note that this modification slightly lowers the 2020 X-rail by approximately 3 mm, resulting in a reduced printing height of about 397 mm. In some cases, this might cause the rail to collide with the Z-axis pulley. To address this, I filed a slight angle on the 2020 rail (as shown in the image) to ensure clearance. I'd like to emphasize that alignment is crucial for CoreXY machines. The X and Y axes are notoriously dependent on several factors to print straight and true: 1. Frame squareness: This ensures the gantry moves parallel. 2. Equal belt tension of the X and Y extruders, as uneven tension can pull one side forward or backward. 3. Squareness of the gantry plates to the X rail. This posting addresses issue number 3. By making these adjustments, I've found that the other two items are also crucial for achieving square prints. To adjust your printer, follow these steps: First, install this mod (which uses the original attachment plates for added strength). Then, ensure your frame is square. Next, clamp the X-axis gantry to the rear frame (it should already be square, right?). After that, adjust your belt tensions to match each other. Remove the clamp and recheck that the gantry touches the back frame at the same time. The good part about this print is that it finally produces consistently high-quality prints, and I'm now refining my settings to achieve even better results! One drawback of this modification is that you'll need another printer to produce the part square.
