Tronxy X3 Z Carriage Upgrade
thingiverse
After owning several Tronxy X3 printers and teaching a 3D printing class using this printer, we discovered that the Y axis and Z axis required improvement. The Y axis can be upgraded using several modifications available on Thingiverse, but unfortunately, few options were available for the Z axis. The main issue was that the clearance holes for the 5mm bolts caused significant play with the wheels. As the printer was used, the Z carriages would become loose, and print quality suffered greatly. We initially tried using a rubber band to hold the three 5mm screws in place while tightening them, which worked well temporarily but eventually needed readjustment. What we came up with solved this problem and made the fitment adjustable. The key was to slot the rear 5mm hole and add a 3mm screw and nut to adjust the 5mm bolt (shaft). This modification exceeded our expectations. We also designed the new parts so that the brass nut is inverted, making the X beam screws easier to access. Speaking of the X beam, we removed the slots from the original parts, ensuring that the X beam can only be slightly off. You can reuse all the original hardware and simply add four 3x20mm screws and four 3mm nylock nuts. Insert the nylock nut into the slot and press it into place, making sure the nylon part faces the 5mm bolt slot to start the 3mm screw. After pressing the nut into place, we "welded" it in using a soldering iron and a piece of filament. Quick update: My printer has accumulated around 80 hours of print time since I implemented this modification, and prints are still excellent! The X3 can be modified to achieve outstanding results at minimal cost. I now have four of these printers equipped with these parts, all working flawlessly.
