The components that came with the printer to support the smooth rod were pretty flimsy and couldn't be tightened neatly without spacers due to the rods protruding above the frame quite a bit. I left extra room above the rod and added washers until snug enough. I simply used discs cut out of a business card. The threaded rod should be allowed to move freely. Obviously, this design needs to be mirrored in order to accommodate both sides.
