Troll that smells Christian blood is a sculpture crafted by Niels Hansen Jacobsen between 1895 and 1896. A bronze replica was ordered by brewer Carl Jacobsen in 1901-02. Initially, the statue was placed outside Jesuskirken, but it proved too provocative for the parish, so it was relocated to the garden of Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek. The church requested the sculpture's return in 2002, but the Glyptotek refused to relinquish it, prompting a duplicate to be created and installed near the church. The name "Troll that smells Christian blood" originates from a Norse myth where the hero conceals himself within the troll's stronghold. As the troll enters his lair, he cries out, "I sense a Christian man's blood!"
