Triumphal procession of Dionysus [2]
myminifactory
In ancient Greek mythology and faith, the thiasos was a frenzied retinue of Dionysus, often depicted as inebriated revelers. Many myths surrounding Dionysus are linked to his arrival in procession form. During his numerous travels, Dionysus, the god of wine and fertility, traveled with Maenads and Satyrs, accompanied by his attribute, the panther, and goats. Together, they surrendered themselves to an ecstasy sparked by wine and dance. In classical antiquity art, the wine-god's outward appearance as a nude, soft ruler became established early on. This piece originally belongs to a sarcophagus lid. Another part of this scene can be found elsewhere. This object is part of "Scan The World".
