Triumphal procession of Dionysus [1]
myminifactory
In ancient Greek mythology and spirituality, the thiasos was a frenzied retinue of Dionysus, often depicted as inebriated revelers in wild abandon. Many of the myths surrounding Dionysus are linked to his arrival in grand processionals. As he traveled extensively, Dionysus, the god of wine and fertility, was accompanied by Maenads and Satyrs, a loyal entourage that included panthers and goats as their revered attributes. Together, they surrendered themselves to an ecstasy fueled by wine and dance. In classical antiquity's visual arts, Dionysus' external appearance as a nude, soft, and often drunken ruler became an early-established archetype. This piece originally formed part of a sarcophagus lid. Another segment of this scene can be found elsewhere.
