Triumph Tiger 800 Turn Signal Mount
thingiverse
This is a replacement turn signal indicator mount for a 2012 Triumph Tiger 800 motorcycle. The OEM parts are made of a hard rubber compound that deteriorates quickly, requiring you to purchase the entire assembly for ~ $50 US if they break. This mount fits and looks like factory when installed. Remove the original torn rubber from the light housing, making sure to get it all out. Then, insert the tube on this replacement with a nice friction fit. You can use a little glue to keep it from turning and getting misaligned. The part is made of ABS plastic and features a thin-walled stalk tube with a necked-down section that should fail without damaging the bike's plastic side panel in case of impact. This part saved me a lot of money and avoided waiting for an OEM replacement. Edit: As someone relatively new to 3D printing, I chose to make this part out of ABS since it is supposed to be stronger and more environmentally durable than other materials. However, I discovered that 3D printed ABS parts don't have very high adhesion between layers. Since this part is best printed with the flat side down, it comes out with many potential failure planes when a bending moment is applied. I found that as designed and printed in ABS, the part is really too fragile, taking only a minor bump to break it. So, I am going to try printing replacements in PLA and PET-G materials, which I recommend you consider doing as well. Edit 2: I redesigned this part with a notch in the mount tube to clear and index on the tab of the clear lens cover, making it just a little stronger. Edit 3: Unfortunately, I broke two more of my replacements on the rear left of the bike while parking it in my tiny garage. The luggage must have bumped into it. So, here is an alternative modular design that gives near OEM flexibility. Print both "2Piece" files and press in a 38mm length of hose. I'm using hard rubber washing machine hose with a 10mm ID and 15mm OD. The 15mm OD makes a nice press fit into the printed parts, while the 17mm OD of the printed end part makes a nice press fit into the light housing. Use some super or hybrid super glue to keep the tube from coming out when the signal inevitably gets bumped. I need to print one in black next time I reload filament.
