Triton of the Fontana del Moro
myminifactory
Triton originates as a legendary Greek god, heralding messages from the ocean, born to Poseidon and Amphitrite, both revered gods of the sea. While Triton's lower half takes the form of a fish, his upper body is depicted in human likeness. Over time, the term "Triton" has come to signify a distinct group of mermaid-like beings, capable of being either male or female, who often serve as loyal escorts to marine deities. These sea gods and goddesses are the offspring of Triton himself. A notable statue of this deity can be discovered in the Fontana del Moro located in Rome's Piazza Navona.
