prusaprinters
Since a child I have been fascinated by tessellation and have always admired the works of M.C.Escher ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.C.Escher ) and with the kind permission of the Escher family have laser cut many of his designs for educational and non-commercial purposes. A few years back a completely new tessellation called Trispokedovetiles came to my attention and this was designed by Peter Dow ( https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Peter_Dow ) an enormously talented if not extremely controversial figure. At the time I laser cut a number of these dovetiles for him to display on his website and as far as I am aware, to date, there has been no commercial take-up on his design. His thoughts for the product were that they could be made from a toughened material and used in the manufacture of body armour. My thoughts were far less ambitious in that they could be made from cardboard and used to make a novel jig-saw puzzle which with the same picture printed on both sides of the puzzle would initially offer 6 times the total number of pieces as a combination of position. Perhaps one day I will make one just to see the degree of difficulty in completing the puzzle. Here is my take on the Trispokedovetiles as a 3D print which can be linear scaled as required. In the attached .stl file the relationship between the interlocking parts of the dovetile is ‘size for size’ so in order to obtain the necessary clearance for multiple dovetiles to fit together the build was printed using a negative value for the walls Horizontal Expansion. Although the Trispokedovetile design is in the public domain it remains the intellectual property of Peter Dow so it cannot be used commercially without his permission.
