Trisection of a cube with internal storage
thingiverse
I've been thinking about whether I can carve out the trisected cube and actually end up with a usable storage compartment. As it turns out, it works just fine. When storing just one big item, it needs to fit into the space left by two pieces (i.e., in 2/3rds of the sphere). Multiple items inside can use more than that amount because they can slide out of the way for the leading edge of the final trisection to pass through when you open or close the piece. I printed it scaled up to take up most of my print bed, as shown in the photos above. If printed at the default scale, it will form a 50x50x50mm cube with a 45mm diameter spherical cavity.
