Tripod Spreader for Celestron NexStar 4SE
thingiverse
So, I purchased a second-hand Celestron NexStar 4E - it's in pretty good condition, but lacks the spreader that firms up the tripod legs - so I decided to build one myself. My 3D Printer has a build area of 100 mm x 100 mm, so I had to design and print it in several components, which led me to create a collapsible unit that can fold away when the tripod is collapsed. First, I printed 1 x Central Hub and 3 x Spokes, then joined them together using 3 x 3 mm bolts. Next, I installed the central rod under the Tripod Mount, followed by the spring, and finally the tensioning knob. Tightening the knob until the spreader spokes engage firmly against the tripod legs is crucial - be careful not to over-tighten, or you risk breaking the spokes. With this modification, you'll find that the tripod becomes much more rigid when the legs are locked into position. To fold away the tripod, simply wind back on the tensioning knob, and then the spokes can be folded up between the tripod legs.
