My wife's trusty camera tripod had finally met its match - a 20+ year old plastic break that refused to yield. The original black parts stood proudly alongside the shiny white replacements, a testament to their durability. To tackle this project, I decided to take a strategic approach, printing the two critical parts separately until they fit like a glove. This clever tactic saved me a significant amount of printing time, and I was able to focus on perfecting my design. Fast forward to 2020, and another original part failure had left us scrambling for a replacement. But I was more than prepared - with OpenScad at my disposal, I designed an entirely new component that fit seamlessly into the rest of the tripod. This part was no slouch either, requiring multiple test prints before I felt confident in its final form. But here's where things got really interesting - when it came time to design the second replacement part (the one that housed our camera), I reached for a different tool altogether: Fusion360. The results were nothing short of phenomenal, with the PETG print boasting an impressive five years of light use and still going strong. And let me tell you, it was a game-changer - we were back in business, and our camera was once again capturing stunning shots with ease.
