I recently upgraded my C310 webcam by adding one extra 5mm to its height, allowing me to angle it down slightly for better mounting positions above the bed. The C310 is an affordable option with decent resolution, making it perfect for monitoring 3D prints. However, its standard clamp mount leaves much to be desired, especially when not attached to computer monitors. Removing the clamp mount from the camera is a simple process once you know how, and I've included step-by-step photos to make it easy. The new mount I designed attaches directly to the camera like the original, but with a smaller hinge and an M3 screw for added stability. My first prototype required an M3x25 screw, which I had plenty of on hand. However, I soon realized that a narrower base would be more versatile, so I created a second version using the more common M3x20 screw. Both mounts require an M3 nut to keep everything secure and allow for adjustments without needing a hex wrench. I utilized the NutJob library to tap a 1/4 x 20 hole in the bottom of the mount, enabling me to attach it to a standard tripod screw. I also created thumbscrews using the same library, which may come in handy for certain situations. Initially, I designed the mount with a wider base for added stability in my project. However, I've since included both versions - one with a narrower base and another with a wider base - to cater to different needs. It's worth noting that the C310 has a fixed focus set at a distance of 2-3 feet to infinity, which isn't ideal for a 3D printer camera. Nevertheless, it's only because there is no user-access. By removing the faceplate and three tiny screws holding the cover in place, you can adjust the lens ring counter-clockwise to bring the focus closer. Get it where you like it and secure it back up.
