Tripod Attached 1/4-20 Gun Steady Rest
thingiverse
Having spring fever has got me itching to get back outdoors and start shooting targets again. I've been browsing shopping sites in search of a reliable gun rest - the prices can easily exceed $100 for some commercial options. That's when I started thinking about tripod gun rests, and I had an idea. I was looking for something that would provide a comfortable grip, much like holding a softball. And this design delivers, with its cozy feel. However, many commercial products come with sharp corners that can cause discomfort during recoil or prolonged use. So, I designed my rest with rounded edges to ensure a smooth experience. If you prefer a tighter grip on your gun, simply turn the rest sideways towards your non-dominant eye and you'll be using it like an ellipse. This allows for more control and precision when shooting. Threads are another important aspect of this design. The hex shape at the bottom is slightly smaller than a standard nut, which requires some effort to heat and press into place while the plastic is still molten. Make sure it's level before allowing it to cool completely - I let mine sit for an hour before tightening it down snugly on my tripod. As someone who experiences hand cramps during shooting sessions, this design should provide relief. It has already helped me, and I'm confident it will do the same for you.
