Tripod and Orb Stand for a Glow Cloud
thingiverse
This is a customizable stand adapter piece designed specifically for use with a glow cloud. The full technical write-up can be found here: https://readmodifywrite.github.io/blog/html/2017/07/20/2017-07-20_how_to_make_a_glow_cloud.html. The stand consists of two distinct parts, both created using OpenSCAD software. The stand itself takes the form of a tripod/orb with a hole at its top to accommodate the adapter piece. This adapter is attached directly to the glow cloud itself. Designing and printing the tripod/orb can be a challenging task due to its complex geometry. To achieve optimal results, I'm using an E3D V6 Volcano hotend with a 0.8mm nozzle on a Printrbot Simple Metal printer that features upgraded Z and X axes. The part is being printed at a layer height of 0.6mm and a speed of 30mm/sec. Based on these settings, the estimated print time will be around 6-7 hours. To minimize waste and ensure successful printing, I recommend trimming the stand down to just the orb component before printing it. Printing the orb separately will also help you identify and resolve any potential issues with its design before investing additional material in the legs. Unfortunately, it took me five attempts to get everything working correctly, so be prepared for a bit of trial-and-error experimentation.
