TrinityLabs Micro Extruder 1.0
thingiverse
Introducing the lightweight TrinityLabs micro direct drive extruder platform, version 1.0! This innovative direct pinch extruder uses an eMinebea stepper motor with a 56oz/in holding torque before its 30:1 delrin planetary gear head. The small motor not only provides more than enough torque to directly drive 3mm or 1.75mm filament, but also boasts an impressively lightweight design at just 118 grams. In fact, the entire extruder setup, including the motor, body, idler, vitamins, fan, and Jhead hot end, weighs only 199 grams - a fraction of the weight of traditional Wades or MakerGear plastruders. This lightweight design allows for fast printing without requiring a bowden cable setup. The extruder has been tested extensively with 5 kilos of plastic and delivers excellent print quality up to 200mm/sec, even lifting a MendelMax printer off the table when needed. A fan shroud added to prevent gear head melting ensures optimal performance. Although one issue was encountered during an extended ABS print at high temperatures, this has been resolved with the addition of the fan shroud. The extruder is now ready for prime time and can be purchased along with necessary components from the store. Stay tuned for a dual extruder version coming soon!
