Trinity Bridge, Crowland
sketchfab
A standout bridge in Crowland, Lincolnshire, makes for an unforgettable excursion for any bridge aficionado. The commemorative plaque discloses: “In its original wooden form, the bridge was first documented in a royal charter issued by King Edred in 943. The present bridge, constructed between 1360 and 1390, is crafted from Ancaster Limestone and marks the 14th Century. The seated figure, believed to be Christ or King Ethelbald, may have originated from the West Front of the Abbey.\n“Built at a point where the Welland forked apart, it served as a vital crossing point at the confluence of two streams.”\nThe Welland has since shifted its course, leaving the bridge standing proudly over dry land in Crowland's central square.
