Trimmed Light Switch Plate
thingiverse
As you can see from the photo, the light switch plate in one bedroom cracked because the original 1970s design placed the light switch too close to the door jamb. I decided to replace it with a new one that doesn't have cracks. I quickly designed a replacement using FreeCAD and printed it out. The process was straightforward except for one thing: figuring out whether a 6mm fillet would print without support in PLA on my Lulzbot Mini printer. To my surprise, it worked just fine. To print the plate, I set up my printer with the following settings: Printer Brand: LulzBot Printer: Mini Rafts: No Supports: No My notes for this print are as follows: Print the plate face down so that the print doesn't require support. This orientation also makes the face of the plate very smooth because it's flat against the print bed. The design process was pretty easy. The only tricky part was determining whether a 6mm fillet would print without support in PLA on my Lulzbot Mini, but it ended up working out just fine.
