Trigonometry Learning Aid

This is a learning aid for trigonometry that serves as a trigonometric mnemonic chart, helping students remember trig identities. It includes four handouts for students to complete. How I Designed This I designed this in 123D Design. Project: Trigonometry Learning Aid Project Name Trigonometry Learning Aid. Overview & Background This chart helps students recall all trigonometric identities easily. Objective Students should be able to quickly recall all trig identities. Audiences Anyone studying trigonometry will benefit from this chart. Subject Math, specifically trigonometry. Skills learned Trigonometry is the primary focus of this aid. Lesson/Activity Students look at the chart, memorize the mnemonics, and complete the handouts. The handouts are PDF files that should be completed in order. To construct the chart, use this sentence: One single pale cosplayer, sleeping on a cot, can’t seem to catch what he’s seeking: tan-lines. Then write out the identities using these methods and mnemonics (to remember operation): center out to opposing sides, “center over and out”, example: 1/sin x = csc x; small triangles, staring at the top left and going clockwise, “adding square triangles”, ex: sin^2 x + cos^2 x = 1; two neighbors along the edge, “two timing neighbors”, ex: sin x = cos x * tan x; one corner and go clockwise, “overclocking”, ex: sin x = cos x / cot x; one corner and go counter-clockwise/anti-clockwise, “overclocking” (or “over-anti-clocking”, if you like), ex: sin x = tan x / sec x. Duration 30 minutes Preparation Basic trig knowledge is required. Pencil or pen and the handouts are needed. References More information can be found at Wikipedia: Mnemonics in trigonometry This comic by The Pigeon Gazette will help consolidate the mnemonic of a pale cosplayer at the beach. Rubric & Assessment Students should have four handouts, three of which they had to complete on their own. They should be able to recreate the chart and list of identities without looking at the 3D printed chart or the handouts. Handouts & Assets Handouts are included as PDFs. JPG previews are provided below. 1) All mnemonics and chart and formulas. 2) mnemonics and chart, with empty space for students to write formulas. 3) mnemonic to construct chart with space to draw chart and write other mnemonics and formulas. 4) space to draw chart, write mnemonics and formulas.
