• What does your name mean? Your name means "Face of three horns." • When and who discovered it? The triceratops was first discovered in 1889 by Othniel Charles Marsh. • What size was it and how was it? Adult specimens could measure between 8 and 9 meters long and 3 meters high, with a body mass of between 6,000 to 12,000 kilograms. They were characterized by the presence of three horns that protruded from the front part of the skull. The skull, which in some fossil specimens measured more than 1.8 m, was quite large compared to the rest of the body. • How long did you live? They lived during the Cretaceous period, over 65 million years ago. Triceratops belongs to the group of ceratopsians. • A curious fact Despite being baptized as Triceratops, which means "face with three horns," in reality only the two that are located on the forehead are horns, while the one closest to the nose is made of a different material.
