Tribus(3 Player Chess)
cults3d
This is a version of 3 Player chess I came up with a while back but never decided to make until now, that is. Tribus, which is Latin for 'Three', uses a triangular board, whereas most 3 player chess games use a hexagonal board. The rules of chess carry over for the most part, but a few are changed to adapt to the board. Changed Rules: 1. Castling is altered slightly because the board is now a triangle; castling can only take place on diagonals, so the king and rook must be on the same diagonal axis in order to castle. 2. General Movement is based on the perspective of the player - pawns are the best example, as the pieces that can be taken depend on where the player is sitting now that the board is a triangle. This enables plays where one player could take a piece while the other couldn't fight back based on their orientation; plan your moves wisely. 3. The Trion is a new piece I created that can move one triangle in any direction, as seen in picture 4 - this is basically a pawn that can move backwards, and this piece replaces the Knight. 4. Rooks and Bishops now have the same moveset, as seen in pictures 5 and 6. 5. When the first player is checkmated, the king is removed from the board and the player who checkmated them captures their army; they do not gain an additional turn, though - they just have the option to use the captured pieces alongside their own. The game ends when one player remains. 6. When a pawn makes it to the starting zone of another player, it can still turn into any piece that has been killed; this can take place in either of the starting zones of the other two players. Pictures 3-8 demonstrate the movement of each piece.
