Triaxial Quartz Movement Upgrade

Triaxial Quartz Movement Upgrade

This is an upgrade to my remix of A26’s original design, which was based on the Astronomia Triaxial watch mechanism. It can be used to replace the clock face of the remix with hands that are driven by an inexpensive quartz movement. This mod replaces the mechanically driven clock hands with a quartz movement drive. This video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LdkkPj9Khw , shows the carrier being driven by the weight, and about 25 seconds into it I remove the weight, and the hands continue to be driven by the quartz movement. 2/21/21 FYI, To keep more up to date with what I'm doing I started an Instagram page @mcmaven.pdx, where I'm posting some of my 3D printing and other designs that I haven't posted here. Overview of Triaxial makes: My original Triaxial Tourbillon remix is weight driven and the STLs are versions of A26's design that I modified to add ball bearings and some other features. Given the plastic escapement parts, the remix was never meant to keep correct time, also it is very inefficient so the weight only keeps it working for a couple of hours. Therefore it is not a practical clock. I designed this 'Triaxial Quartz Movement Upgrade' to replace the clock face in the remix, so it could be used to display the correct time when it was hanging on a wall. The weight in the Triaxial Tourbillon remix is painful to wind, so make it easier to animate I designed the Motorized Astronomia. For the Motorized Astronomia I basically started with a clean slate. All of the parts have been redesigned, with no intention to be compatible with my original remix. jdirgo has done some great things with his make of the Motorized Astronomia (https://www.thingiverse.com/make:892383). Adapting the the gear driven hands of the remix to the Motorized version, and making a carbon fiber balance wheel to allow it to tick at an accurate rate. Hopefully this information will help you know which design to download. 8/4/2019 Posted missing TQ_Face_Hourgear1_shaft.STL file and the updated documentation to reflect change to a 48mm long 2mm shaft vs. two 15mm shafts. It was ruzickjc’s idea to build a version that used a quartz movement. His prototype can be see at https://youtu.be/wt\_mqIPkCwM. I took his idea and made a few changes. • Adding a case for the quartz movement to hide it. • Brought the gear that drives the minute hand around to the front of the movement to simulate the minute hand being driven by the rotation of the carrier. • Made a larger counter weight to offset the additional weight of the quartz movement and its battery. Now if you hang the clock on the wall, it will actually keep the correct time. To demo the tourbillon, just hook the weight on. Category: 3D Printing
