Triaxial Quartz Movement Upgrade
thingiverse
This upgrade to my remix of A26's original design, which was based on the Astronomia Triaxial watch mechanism, is a significant improvement. 8/4/2019 I've posted the missing TQ_Face_Hourgear1_shaft.STL file and updated documentation to reflect the change from two 15mm shafts to a single 48mm long 2mm shaft. This mod replaces mechanically driven clock hands with a quartz movement drive. The video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LdkkPj9Khw showcases the carrier being driven by the weight, and about 25 seconds in, I remove the weight, demonstrating how the quartz movement continues to drive the hands. Ruzickjc's idea of using a quartz movement inspired me to create this version. His prototype can be seen at https://youtu.be/wt_mqIPkCwM. I made some key changes to his design. • Adding a case for the quartz movement to conceal it. • Moving the gear that drives the minute hand to the front of the movement, simulating the minute hand's rotation with the carrier. • Creating a larger counter weight to offset the additional weight of the quartz movement and its battery. Now, when you hang the clock on the wall, it will accurately keep time. To showcase the tourbillon, simply attach the weight.
